Mongoose is a specialist Sports, Fitness and Entertainment Agency.  We deliver specialist expertise for both brands and rights holders across Communications, PR, Sponsorship, Activation and Events.   • Communications – this team provides PR, digital, sponsorship activation and experiential events for Clients, working with global brands such as The North Face, Lucozade Sport and New Balance.  
  • Sponsorship Sales – the Sponsorship Sales division provides commercial consulting and long-term commercial strategy to rights holders as well as being retained to take sponsorship rights to market for clients. This team represents high profile properties such as Wasps RFC and the Ricoh Arena, The Boat Race and the London Eye.

About the role:

Due to continued success and expansion, we have an exciting new vacancy for a Business Development Director to join our Clerkenwell based Agency. The role is twofold, split equally – a) to work with the Sponsorship Sales team to close deals and dramatically grow commission revenue for the Agency and b) to source and on-board new clients for both the Sponsorship Sales and Communications divisions.

Key Responsibilities include; 

Sponsorship Sales:

  • Work with the Sponsorship Sales Managers and the Commercial Director to close any live sponsorship discussions for Sales Clients 
  • Using the candidates ‘black book’, unearth new Sponsorship Sales opportunities and develop these opportunities through to closing. 
  • Work with the COO on any consulting related matters at the outset of any retained Sponsorship Sales Client relationships
  • Work with the CEO on new retained Client opportunities through to onboarding these Clients
  • Report monthly to the management team on commission related revenue and targets

New Business for Comms and Sponsorship Sales Divisions:

  • Proactively nurture new and existing contacts to secure opportunities to pitch for the Comms and Sponsorship Sales Divisions
  • Develop strong internal relationships across the Group, continually driving opportunities for Sponsorship introductions and growth as well as integrated new business development
  • Build a 2019 strategy to drive and grow both divisions
  • Assist the pitch lead with the pitch strategy and application of team members to specific pitches. 
  • Manage and drive the new business pipeline, ensuring there is a constant flow of hot, warm and cool prospects, both short term and long term
  • Manage and develop a sales CRM system
  • Propose and devise initiatives that support business generation
  • Play a proactive role in the development of clear articulation of the Mongoose Comms and Sponsorship Sales offerings and presentation to Group colleagues so that everyone is aware of and supporting the development of the offer
  • Report on weekly progress to the CEO

Ideal Characteristics:

  • We’re looking for a born sales candidate with an excellent track record for closing deals and contracting new business
  • Must know the UK sponsorship landscape thoroughly with substantial experience in the sports communications industry
  • Proven track record of closing sponsorship deals and must produce a ‘deal sheet’ as evidence
  • Ability to lead the Sponsorship Sales team by example, assisting the team with all mature sponsorship conversations
  • An excellent networker, seeking out new business opportunities wherever possible
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, building builds rapport; constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact; can diffuse high-tension situations comfortably
  • Can exceed goals successfully; is constantly and consistently one of the top performers; very bottom-line oriented; steadfastly pushes self and others for results
  • Strong sense of commerciality; knowledgeable in current and possible future policies, practices, trends and information affecting the industry and organisation; knows the competition; is aware of how strategies and tactics work in the marketplace.
