The fitness industry is booming, the market has grown to £4.4 billion and research shows that now 1 in 7 people in the UK are a member of a gym. This has certainly been reflected by the number of trade shows and events popping up this year. With an increase in people taking charge of their own fitness and a number of both government and brand based initiatives pushing people to get moving, the industry is investing in the future – what are the next big trends and technologies they can bring to their customers and members whilst boosting their own figures?
May in particular has been a huge month for fitness events, Mongoose have been out and about across London, whether it’s supporting clients and their ambassadors or gathering industry insight. Our team round up the trends of the key fitness events below:
Sandra Vernuccio, our resident PT and fitness fanatic attended Body Power:
“If you are a die-hard about your fitness, Body Power is the ultimate expo to get immersed in the latest and greatest trends the workout world has to offer. As the most celebrated fitness event in the UK and one of the best in the world, tens of thousands of fitness and health enthusiasts from all over the world head to Birmingham to compete in and spectate in world-class body physique contests and workout competitions. The event provides fitness brands the opportunity to engage with their key audience. Our client, Optimum Nutrition went all out to impress their loyal customers with Team ON present on the stand handing out samples of their newest products and flavours, including a DJ booth with Joel Corry setting the ultimate brand experience with killer beats drawing the crowd in to get involved in the action on the stand. WBFF champions Steve Cook and Shaun Stafford also made an appearance to take photos with fans who had waited hours for have a moment with their icon.”
Kirstyn MacRandal, PR account direct and sports science geek headed off the Balance Festival:
“Balance Festival unsurprisingly brought with it the perfect blend of food and fitness. As the two worlds collide we can see brands from detox juices and vegan sausages to the latest training craze working side by side to create the ultimate balance. This is certainly a thriving and ever growing marketing that is capturing an audience, or you might even say following, in a new healthy living movement.”
Jo Long-Pockett, PR associate and cycling guru attended Spin:
“Spin Festival has outgrown its humble beginnings, whilst retaining it’s cool, boutique feel – a firm favourite of the Mongoose team. It was great to walk the floors and see so many fresh, emerging brands breaking in to the industry, and even better that many of these brands are being spearheaded by women. We thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Caren Hartley, founder of custom bikes brand Hartley Cycles in the Frame Lab, and are excited by the passion and ambition of Katie from stylish bike accessories brand New Pharaoh. As Beyonce so rightly said, ‘who run the world… girls’ and this is certainly true where Alicia Bamford, founder of women’s clothing brand Queen of the Mountains is concerned. Not only has Alicia developed a beautiful range of kit, designed to meet the needs of women cyclists, she is also running group rides across London to create a friendly community and encourage more women to enjoy the joys of a life on two wheels.”
Rupert Pratt, director at Mongoose and sponsorship expert scoped out FIBO:
“Firstly, FIBO was huge, x14 Excel sized halls dedicated to the industry with x2 halls just dedicated to protein brands and 3-4 on gym equipment alone. The stand outs for me were the clear push for innovation and technology, particularly in the EMS sector, with brands such as Miha Body Tec and AnyFit pushing body suits and wearables - particularly with regards to its scientific benefits to training and recovery. Secondly, digital technology such as Funxtion and mobile apps, whether they’re bringing personal training to big interactive screens or your mobiles, are two areas seeing huge growth via the gym and home market.”
