THE FUTURE OF EUROPEAN RUGBY

In September Rugby Europe, the governing body responsible for the promotion, development, organisation and administration of rugby in Europe, appointed Generate to develop and implement a long term commercial and marketing strategy. The strategy forms a part of their vision to shape the success of competitive rugby on a pan-European level.

Impressive performances from Georgia and Romania at the Rugby World Cup highlighted the growing need for competitive integration outside of the Six Nations structure.To develop Europe's Tier 2 nations and to make them more competitive they need the chance to play Europe's top teams.

Rugby Europe will continue to work alongside World Rugby and all its 48 member unions, to develop the tournament structure across 2nd and 3rd tier nations. The Rugby Europe Championship,(including Georgia, Romania, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Russia) is a tournament growing in stature but increased integration with the Six Nations countries will only serve to assist their development into competitive nations.

Octavian Morariu, Rugby Europe President and IOC member said “We believe that it is the joint objective of the European rugby community to build a detailed strategy that means the Six Nations Championships is not the only answer for International rugby in Europe, both on and off the field.”

“It is a joint vision to shape the success of competitive rugby on a pan-European level. Post Rugby World Cup and pre Rio Olympics, is an exciting time for the sport and we need to capitalise on these opportunities.”

“We have an exciting vision and strategy in place that will increase the visibility and understanding of the opportunities in rugby across Europe, as well as develop the standard of rugby played in Europe and internationally.”
